Carolina Panthers ‘player-first’ mindset

The Carolina Panthers have gained plenty of plaudits for assembling a high-caliber coaching staff – and rightfully so. But defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero confirmed what Frank Reich stated earlier in the week regarding this organization adopting a player-first mindset moving forward.

This is a far cry from the egotistical, often petulant methods Matt Rhule adopted that kept the focus on himself. Something that Evero hopes will provide the spark that ignites Carolina’s defense and the franchise overall to great things in 2023.

"“I always want to have the mindset that it all starts with the players. There’s got to be a purpose behind it. And the purpose is your players. I always tell the guys like, this is not my defense. This is our defense. And it’s the 2023 Carolina Panthers defense. We’re all collaborating to build his defense. I don’t want this to be about me; it’s about us and us doing this thing together.”"

Evero came across superbly during his first presser. He was articulate, insightful, and has a clear plan to bring the best out of what does appear to be a gifted young group that just needs some fine-tuning.

Obviously, there will be departures and incomings as the offseason gathers pace. But with Evero leading the defense, fans can relax safe in the knowledge they have a coach capable of taking this defensive unit to a completely different level in 2023.
