Carolina Panthers could trade with the Cardinals

  • No. 3 overall selection

Another team that could be looking to trade down is the Arizona Cardinals. They’ve already invested a significant amount of money in quarterback Kyler Murray, so acquiring additional assets to give up the No. 3 overall selection is something those in power will no doubt consider.

The Carolina Panthers recently acquired Adrian Wilson from the Cardinals as their new Vice President of Player Personnel. Again, this connection between the two shouldn’t be overlooked and might come with smooth discussions if such a scenario came to fruition.

It’s highly likely that the Houston Texans will take a quarterback. Therefore, even going up to No. 3 might not be enough if the Panthers are intent on drafting a blue-chip prospect such as Bryce Younr or C.J. Stroud.

Arizona’s new general manager Marti Ossenfort – who assumed the position in January – stated recently that the Cardinals would consider every possibility. This includes trading their pick for a substantial offer that can strengthen multiple positional groups.

"“The benefit is that we’re going to be ready to pick a premium player that’s going to be able to come in here and have an impact on our team. That’s the benefit. The other benefit is there could be calls on that pick … We’re going to do what’s best for the team so if we get a chance to drop back and pick up additional picks that will help build the team, we’re going to entertain that.”"

If the Panthers did identify Arizona as their likely trade partner, they’d be guaranteed at least the choice between two of the top four quarterback prospects, at the very worst. Something they are unlikely to get if those in power sit on their hands.
