4 free-agent safeties the Carolina Panthers could sign in 2023

Carolina Panthers could sign Terrell Edmunds
Another potential option for the Carolina Panthers that ticks all the boxes in terms of scheme fit is Terrell Edmunds. The defensive back was a first-round selection and boasts five years of starting experience, but whether he’s done enough to warrant a bigger commitment from the Pittsburgh Steelers is the million-dollar question nobody knows the answer to right now.
Letting Edmunds walk would be a gamble on Pittsbirgh’s part. They also have a strong record of looking after their own if they prove themselves, which is exactly what the former Virgina Tech standout has done over a prolonged period of time.
There are some deficiencies in coverage which would be a concern. But Edmunds is fast, explosive, and can be used almost anywhere depending on the circumstance at the time.
This is a nice tool to have. Especially considering how useful Edmunds is on blitz packages.
While he isn’t the most physically imposing, there’s plenty to like about his aggression and ability to stop running in their tracks with an outstanding tackling technique. This does the job more often than not.
Much like most decisions facing the Panthers this offseason, money will play a huge part. But this would be a quality addition to Ejiro Evero’s defense as the coordinator looks to convince another team to make him an NFL head coach in 2024.
