The Carolina Panthers head into their bye week on a high after a fantastic win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. However, general manager Dan Morgan still has problems to fix.
Specifically, the Panthers need to seriously consider making an aggressive move to improve their cornerback options.
Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson Sr. are both on injured reserve. The Panthers stood pat with their options against the Lions, but they largely underwhelmed.
Morgan shouldn't miss this, and it's the perfect time to add another capable performer before things get tougher after the bye week.
With that in mind, here are five potential trade options the Panthers could consider to enhance their cornerback options.
Cornerback trade options the Carolina Panthers should consider at their 2026 bye week
Kelee Ringo
Elite-level cornerbacks don't tend to become available via trade, and the Panthers opted not to make a move for Joey Porter Jr. before he was shipped to the Dallas Cowboys. But if they can find someone at a decent cost who can provide relief, Morgan should seriously consider it.
Kelee Ringo blew his chance to start for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He's a rotational piece and core special teams presence, but in a contract year, Howie Roseman might consider trading him for the right price.
Carrington Valentine
While there is no doubt Carrington Valentine has outperformed his seventh-round draft billing, he's dropped down the Green Bay Packers' pecking order this season. The Kentucky product would probably welcome a change of scenery, and the NFC North club might be willing to sell in a contract year.
Valentine has experience, is young enough to earn another contract if his performances warrant it, and will be hungry to learn. That makes him an intriguing option for the Panthers if they go down the trade route.
Mike Sainristil
After a promising rookie year in 2024, Mike Sainristil looked set to become a long-term piece of Washington's puzzle. The decline has been glaring ever since, and getting just five snaps in the Commanders' loss to the Indianapolis Colts in London showed just how much he's fallen out of favor.
Sainristil has ball-hawking capabilities and inside-out versatility, but a fresh start is needed. A new environment might serve him well, and he's also been operating in a 3-4 system this season, so his transition to Carolina would be relatively smooth in this scenario.
Keisean Nixon
Of all the options on this list, Keisean Nixon is probably the most tempting. He's still playing well for the Green Bay Packers, but with their poor start and his contract expiring next spring, the club may decide to cash in.
Nixon is sticky in coverage and physical enough to help closer to the line of scrimmage. Much would depend on the compensation, but the South Carolina product could instantly upgrade anything the Panthers have without Horn and Jackson to depend on.
Chidobe Awuzie
If the Panthers want an established veteran who can help right now, Chidobe Awuzie is another worthy option. The 2017 second-round pick is a rotational piece for the Baltimore Ravens after getting a new deal this offseason. They don't tend to remove depth pieces, but it wouldn't hurt to inquire.
Awuzie's had an up-and-down career, and he isn't getting any younger. That said, he could assist from the jump, and that's precisely what the Panthers need while missing their top two cornerbacks.
