Matt Ioannidis - Former Carolina Panthers DT

While the stench of Matt Rhule's incompetent reign is slowly fading from the Carolina Panthers, it wasn't all bad in terms of acquisitions. One of his more profitable former college players that joined the ranks was Matt Ioannidis, who performed well alongside Derrick Brown on the defensive line interior last season.

Ioannidis had his injury problems, but he was an assured presence that allowed the former Auburn standout to flourish during a breakout campaign. Many expected the Temple product to get an extension, which hasn't arrived as yet and is unlikely to given the acquisitions made by Carolina this offseason.

Shy Tuttle and DeShawn Williams came in to fortify a defensive front that is switching to a 3-4 base scheme. While Ioannidis' skill set looks well suited to these responsibilities, it's clear the new regime is moving forward without the veteran as things stand.

This is all part of the business and something Ioannidis experienced before when he was cut loose by the Washington Commanders. Perhaps what's more surprising is the lineman not getting an offer from elsewhere given his experience and proven production in a competitive NFL setting.

Ioannidis is biding his time and an offer is likely to arrive before the 2023 campaign. And who knows, perhaps the Panthers could have a change of heart if injury strikes.
