The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Deshaun Foster has been released by the Carolina Panthers. The team had been reportedly trying to trade the veteran running back but to no avail.
The roster move comes as little surprise really since the team could be saving as much as $4.75 million on this year’s salary cap with the release.
Foster’s six-year career with the Panthers has been frequently interrupted by injuries. He played his first full season without missing a game last year, recording a career-high 247 carries but a career low 3.5-yard average.
He has yet to rush for 900 yards in a season. His career total of 3,336 yards is a Panthers team record.
He has 10 career rushing touchdowns. He has run for 100 yards or more in seven of the 63 games in which he’s played.
