Hackett Mulling Offers

Someday soon we can stop writing about D.J. Hackett.  That will happen when he signs with someone…anyone.

Hackett, as you all know by now, met with the Redskins and Buccaneers last week.  He then completed a swing through Charlotte yesterday.  He’s now headed back to Seattle to mull over the offers he received.

The Panthers haven’t been playing hard ball this offseason with players.  It’s worked in some cases and not in others.

Hackett will be interesting to watch since he might give the Seahawks the opportunity to match any offers he has received from the three teams who have met with him.

Maybe we’ll know something about where he will wind up in the next few days.

As usual, we have more news in today’s Quick Hits…

The Falcons and Raiders have agree to a trade.  DeAngelo Hall would be sent to Oakland for a second-round draft pick.  Now, the Raiders have to finalize a contract with the veteran cornerback.

The Bears have reportedly scheduled a hearing for Monday to help determine if the 49ers tampered with linebacker Lance Briggs during the ’07 season.

Dolphins defensive end Matt Roth changed his plea to guilty on Friday in a case stemming from an incident in February in Iowa.  He had originally paid a fine for public intoxication.

William Joseph, a defensive lineman formerly of the Giants, has signed with the Raiders.

Steelers linebacker Clark Haggans has been contacted by the Colts and Browns according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.

Ravens cornerback Chris McAllister underwent surgery on his knee to repair ligament damage.

It didn’t take long.  Within two hours of being released by the Lions, running back Kevin Jones had as many as 12 teams showing an interest in his services.  The Lions are pressing on without Jones.  Quarterback Jon Kitna believes that Tatum Bell gives the team the best chance for success as the starting running back.

Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are being counted on in Miami.  The Dolphins are confident that the running back tandem will be ready for ’08.

Another wide receiver has hit the market as the 49ers released Darrell Jackson.

Saints running back Deuce McAllister not only had ACL surgery but also had a microfracture procedure on his right knee.  This all occurred back in September.

The Packers and linebacker Brady Poppinga are negotiating a new long-term deal.

The Vikings have re-signed wide receiver Robert Ferguson.
