Welcome to the Carolina Panthers Charles Tillman!

An event surrounding Charles Tillman before his first training camp for the Carolina Panthers could almost be summed up like a quote from the famous 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” when Dorothy says to her dog, Toto,

“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Instead, Tillman’s quote might be something like

“Sir Purr, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Chicago anymore.”

But instead, Tillman mentions the 1973 movie “The Exorcist” when asked about his trip to Carolina

“Now if I saw someone spitting pea soup or something and heads started spinning and kids are running around and everyone is freaking out screaming, yeah, I probably would have been freaking out, too.’’

Now what exactly happened that hopefully Tillman’s first experience of football in the south does not scare him away from the Panthers?  As Tillman was flying from Chicago to Charlotte to report to camp, the American Airlines flight he was on had a fuel leak, causing the pilot to make an emergency landing in Indianapolis.

However, when asked about the atmosphere surrounding the passengers and crew, Tillman made it sound as if the pilot was an expert at emergency landings,

“like he’s done it a hundred times.”

Tillman even mentioned almost all the passengers remained calm with one exception

“There was only one lady that panicked.  The rest of us were kind of calm.”

Staying calm was surely something unexpected, especially after you watch this post on Tillman’s Twitter page

Tillman comes to Carolina after spending 12 seasons with the Chicago Bears with the hope he will be healthy, compete for a starting spot at cornerback and mentor the younger players.

A small mishap on his way, as we will call it should not hamper his impact.  But think about, Tillman has not even experienced the heat and humidity at Wofford College during training camp.  However, after going through an emergency airplane landing on his way just to get to training camp, the heat will be an afterthought and he will have the impact the Panthers are hoping for in the 2015 season.
