Alex Van Pelt

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spoken highly of his former coach Alex Van Pelt. After advancing to the NFC Championship last season, Rodgers offered the following comments to ESPN Staff Writer Rob Demovsky.

More from Cat Crave

"“He’s a great game-day manager, giving me exactly what I need and nothing more. He cares about it. The guy puts a lot of work into it. He’s a great coach. There’s no reason why his name shouldn’t be out there for coordinator spots right now, but he’s done a great job for us. And he and I have become very close.”"

One year later the Packers and Van Pelt have parted ways after Green Bay struggled to win football games without Rodgers on the field. The now former Packers quarterback coach has play calling experience, serving as the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator during the 2009 season.

Van Pelt is also a former NFL quarterback spending time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills over 11 seasons.

Don’t expect the position to be vacant for long as preparations are beginning for the NFL Draft. Rivera needs someone in place who can assist in revamping the offensive side of the football while adding a few more weapons for Newton.
