3.  The addition of Norv Turner

Norv Turner has been around the NFL coaching block. From starting out as a graduate assistant at Oregon back in 1975 to becoming the offensive coordinator of the Carolina, Panthers, Turner has seen it all.

One of the things he wants to implement as offensive coordinator of the Panthers is a quicker, more open offense. Quick throws and decision-making will be crucial here.  He also wants to make Cam Newton more of a pocket passer, which may be easier said than done. As we all know, scrambling is a unique asset to Newton’s game, so that may be a hindrance. However, if they work on it enough during the preseason, the Panthers may be able to perfect it.

Guys like D.J. Moore and Torrey Smith should make life easier because they are built for the stand-in-the pocket, deep throws. Combine that with the situational success of a guy like Jarius Wright and the running abilities of C.J. Anderson and Christian McCaffery and Turner has plenty of tools in his toolbox.

Turner should be able to open up the offense a bit more. We have seen firsthand the firepower that the rest of the NFC South possesses and with Turner at the helm, the Panthers should be able to go toe-to-toe with some of the National Football League’s best.
