Panthers 2018 draft class may become one to remember
The Carolina Panthers may have a cornerstone draft class….
Draft classes can make you or break you. Too many teams in the National Football League have found that out the hard way. Fortunately for the Carolina Panthers, their 2018 draft class is shaping up to be a special one. Their talents have been on display all throughout the practices and preseason games, making Carolina Panthers fans excited about the future.
Tuesday, Bill Voth of Panthers.com spoke on the Garcia and Bailey show, and he noted that the rookie class has the potential to be a special one.
"“This year’s (the Panthers) rookie class, and it’s still so ridiculously early, it looks like they’ve got a lot of potential in that rookie class,” said Voth. “Obviously with D.J. (Moore) and then Donte (Jackson), and then perhaps what Ian Thomas might be able to do if they can develop him as more than just a pass catcher. And Jermaine Carter Jr. and Marquis Haynes. So I think that if anything about this camp made a difference than say last year’s, it was that this rookie class right now is standing out as a class that could give a big boost to their roster.”"
This class excites me for a couple of reasons. For one, having someone like Voth endorse the rookie class means something. He is around the team frequently and has seen firsthand what these guys can do. Secondly, he names a couple of players on the list as ones that can make an impact. To me, if you can get at least two players that can be impactful contributors for you team, that is considered a success.

The way it looks right now, the Carolina Panthers could have four viable studs in this class. Rashaan Gaulden, Donte Jackson, D.J. Moore and Ian Thomas all have the potential to be valuable contributors to the team for years to come. The depth in the class is also something that could make it one of the best classes to date. It seems as though it is packed with reinforcements something that could prove to be beneficial for the Carolina Panthers in the long run. Particularly in the secondary and at the linebacker positions (both of which are aging at the moment), this draft was very crucial as the need to get younger was paramount.
We will have to wait and see just how the class pans out. One thing that is certain is the amount of potential it has. General manager Marty Hurney knew he needed to patch some holes on what was an already good team, and he did that. As Thursday against the Bills showed, this group appears ready for the spotlight. At the very least, they made a good first impression.
