The Carolina Panthers preseason continues with a home game against the Miami Dolphins…

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finished his first preseason action with six completions and 84 yards passing. Not a stellar performance as Newton missed a few passes early but still exciting after watching the Panthers endure a training camp and preseason last year in which he could barely participate.

Recuperating from offseason shoulder surgery the Panthers were limiting his throwing but this is a new season. Newton enters after a full healthy offseason and although he is learning to work with a new offensive coordinator for the third time in his career – expectations are high.

Norv Turner has a track record of success with many top quarterbacks and although how he elects to utilize Newton and his unique skill set will mostly be kept under wraps during the preseason, his play calling and developmental work of the three hopeful backups should be apparent.

The competition between Garrett Gilbert and Taylor Heinicke has been tight to this point with both tossing touchdown passes last week. Rookie Kyle Allen may also receive a bit more playing time against Miami than he did in Buffalo.

Following is your roadmap for all things Panthers and Dolphins related as the 2018 preseason continues.

Offensive Line Shakeup

Following another injury, the offensive line shifts again with the return of center Ryan Kalil.

The second preseason game typically offers less in terms of starters playing time but for Carolina the game is critical. The Panthers enter with remaining questions about who can fill openings at left guard, cornerback and safety when the regular season begins in a few weeks. Backup candidates also continue to fight for positions at quarterback and wide receiver.
