The Carolina Panthers made the right move by choosing Glick…..

The Carolina Panthers have a team president. In what is another major move for the David Tepper regime, the team has hired Tom Glick as team president. He will assume the position on September 16.

Glick has managed multiple teams in multiple capacities over the years. Per the team’s official announcement, Glick has over 25 years of sports management experience in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Most recently, he has spearheaded the City Football Group for the past six years. Perhaps the most notable club CFG owns is Manchester City FC. Over the past couple years in particular, that is a name that has become synonymous with success.

"“I am honored to join the Panthers. David has a clear and exciting vision for the team, and I can see and feel the buzz and anticipation for this new era of Panthers football,” Glick said. “ I’m ready to get started and will give everything to help the team deliver for our fans, players, staff, partners and our communities throughout North and South Carolina.”"

At first glance, this is a great hire. It seems as though Glick knows a thing or two about sports management given his success in both the United States and the United Kingdom. While Tepper seems more like the “fan” type of owner (which is great), Glick seems more like he will handle the business side of things.  That is a role that is very important to play. In addition, it seems like he is very eager to get the job done. That should mesh well with Tepper’s personality, which fuels the latter’s desire to win.

This hire does not come off as just giving another rich guy a job. Glick seems to have a vision and focus about how to make the Carolina Panthers successful. He seems to be on the same page with Tepper too, which is a bonus. Since Tepper is so hands-on, it will be interesting to see exactly what Glick’s role will be. My guess is that Glick and Tepper’s roles will intertwine a bit since they seem to  share similar visions on how to run the team.

This should be a great hire for the Carolina Panthers and complement Tepper well. A successful businessman is now the team president. Any time you get to say that sentence, it can only mean good things for the future of the franchise.
