Kicker. 1995-2010. John Kasay. 19. player. 87.

It’s not easy for kickers to make these types of lists. When you have a kicker who was with the franchise for its first 15 years of life and was as successful as John Kasay though, the recognition seems to be well-warranted.

Kasay was everything the Panthers could have hoped for when they entered the league as an expansion team in 1995. During his 15 years with Carolina, the long-time NFL kicker converted 82.8 percent of his attempts, an impressive rate for any professional leg. Although he wasn’t perfect, Kasay did more than enough to earn his stripes with the Panthers.

Unfortunately, most fans will remember him for his costly kickoff out of bounds during Super Bowl XXXVIII. It was a grave mistake that kept the Panthers from winning their first NFL championship. However, let’s not forget that he also converted a 50-yard field goal and all of his extra points in the same game.

Regardless of the mishaps, Kasay was an all-time great for the Panthers. Those 15 years of service were exactly what the Panthers needed to find some consistency in the kicking game as they got their feet wet in the NFL.
