Funchess against the corners

Devin Funchess will probably face his toughest test of the season on Sunday. The passing defense of the Baltimore Ravens is no joke, and they have been causing havoc on offenses throughout the course of the season.

Baltimore ranks No. 5 in the National Football League with 1,333 yards allowed on the season. They are aggressive, they are stingy, and they are not afraid to come after the football. Funchess was one of the bright spots in what was an otherwise rough game on Sunday. He led the team in receiving, and has continued a trend that has been developing over the past couple of weeks. He has started to look like himself again and has begun putting up numbers that have put him firmly back into the conversation of No. 1 wideout. On the year, the former Michigan product has recorded 29 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

He put together a good game last Sunday against the Eagles and I would expect that trend to continue. He has been a top target of the Carolina Panthers over the past couple of seasons and even with the depth they have this year, I would not expect that to change. Although he will have to work for his yards against Baltimore, he should be able to find a few holes in the secondary and make plays. Particularly on jump balls that’s when he can use his athleticism to go up and make the catch. I can’t wait to see what he does for an encore on Sunday.
