Carolina Panthers Week 10 preview and prediction at Pittsburgh Steelers.

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner opened up the playbook last week orchestrating touchdown drives on five consecutive possessions for a franchise record 35 points in a single half of football. Although the Panthers only managed a single score in the second-half, it was enough for a 42-28 victory.

Faced with a short week and trip to Pittsburgh, there are a number of outside factors for Carolina to overcome if they want to extend their current win streak. The Panthers are just 1-5 against the Steelers in regular season play and have a losing record (3-4) when playing on Thursday night under coach Ron Rivera.

Pittsburgh has won four straight and despite playing without star running back Le’Veon Bell, is leading the AFC North behind an offense beginning to click on all cylinders. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has multiple weapons, similar to the Panthers and Cam Newton, at both the running back and receiver positions.

For a second week in a row, the Panthers secondary will be tested against a legitimate corps of wide receivers. Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Vance McDonald provide a serious threat in addition to running back James Conner who can also contribute through the air.

An improving group, the cornerback play of James Bradberry and rookie Donte Jackson has been stellar recently, while safety Eric Reid continues settling into his role on the Panthers defense. With four interceptions (Reid, Adams, Jackson and Captain Munnerlyn) from the secondary in the past two games, creating any momentum changing turnovers on Thursday night will be critical.

Both defenses are nearly statistically identical with the Panthers and Steelers each allowing 22 and 23 points per game and 344 versus 347 yards per game, respectively. The one key difference has been in protecting the football with Pittsburgh giving up three more possessions than takeaways while Carolina owns a plus-eight turnover differential.

A short week gives neither an advantage as both teams were in action on Sunday, but the Panthers are having to travel. The difference maker will be Roethlisberger as the defense has played well recently but the Pittsburgh offense is peaking behind their future Hall of Fame quarterback, finding a way to win in prime time.

PREDICTION: Carolina Panthers – 27, Pittsburgh Steelers – 30
