Devin Funchess needs to get going

I would love to see Devin Funchess tear it up in December. As a matter of fact, I think that needs to happen. The veteran has been one of Cam Newton’s go-to target over the past couple of seasons. If the Panthers want to make the playoffs, Funchess needs to continue that role.

It is not that the team necessarily needs for him to fill the role of go-to receiver. Other players at the position have stepped up and really made names for themselves. Guys like Curtis Samuel and DJ Moore have emerged as explosive playmakers for the Panthers offense and have done a great job of providing a spark for the team. However, the veteran leadership is needed for the playoffs should the Panthers get there.

Funchess can turn it on when need be. Last year in the month of December, the former Michigan product recorded 13 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 15.2 yards per catch and really served as a catalyst for the Panthers offense. He made the team forget all about Kevin Benjamin. He helped up level the play of the Panthers when they need it most. He needs to continue to do that and he must play at a high level in the month of December. The Panthers need everybody on the offense to contribute, and he is a big part of that.
