Carolina Panthers meet with players from key positions of need at the Senior Bowl.

Carolina Panthers coaches and scouts are in Mobile, Alabama this weekend for the Reese’s Senior Bowl. A game which highlights NFL Draft prospects in their final live action before training camp, many players participate in an attempt to raise their stock in the eyes of NFL coaches.

The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders coaching staffs are tasked with instructing this group of players who has been divided into two teams – North vs. South – for the game. In the days leading up to kickoff, teams are allowed to meet and interview players on an individual basis.

As these meetings continue, early indications are the Carolina Panthers are focusing on a few obvious positions of need. Questions at safety and offensive line are two areas general manager Marty Hurney needs to focus on this offseason.

The retirement of veteran center Ryan Kalil leaves an opening along the interior of the offensive line and an aging Mike Adams, with Eric Reid only playing under a one-year deal last season, has the safety position almost vacated entirely.

In order to get a better understanding of the prospects potentially available when the Panthers are on the clock in late April, the team has met with a handful of different candidates from each of these two positions.

N.C. State center and Charlotte native, Garrett Bradbury joined Erik McCoy (Texas A&M) as potential offensive lineman the team has shown interest in this weekend. On the back end of the defense, Virginia safety Juan Thornhill is a prospect to watch and intriguing fit for the Panthers. He and Delaware safety Nasir Adderley are both individuals who could hear their names called by Carolina.

Last year, the Panthers selected two players who participated in the Senior Bowl – tight end Ian Thomas and defensive end Marquis Haynes.
