The Carolina Panthers could pick Taylor and therefore address a need.

Yes, the NFL Draft is still two months away. However, mock drafts keep churning and experts keep making their picks. Of course, the Carolina Panthers are in the middle of it all. Thursday, Jared Dubin of CBSSports.com put together a mock draft of his own. There were not too many surprises to be had. However, Dubin made a pick for the Carolina Panthers that was not really a surprise. As a matter of fact, it filled a need.

Furthermore, the explanation why the Panthers should take this pick was very candid. I certainly appreciated it, as it sums up how us Panthers fans are thinking. Quite frankly, we are tired of seeing Cam Newton risk his life every time he drops back to throw the football. He certainly did that a lot last season, and that needs to change. Dubin’s pick would help solve that problem. Offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor of Florida was the pick for the Panthers.

"How many more huge hits do we have to see Cam Newton take before this team really does something about the offensive line? Hopefully zero, and they take Taylor here."

Taylor is an interesting prospect. He was a three-year starter, but was part of a Florida offensive line that struggled in 2018. They allowed 10 sacks on the season, which is not a tremendous number in the college football world. From everything I’ve read about him, he is still a promising prospect but could require some technique drills. He is talented enough to warrant a high pick, but there is definitely still some work to be done there. Nevertheless, offensive line is a position that the Carolina Panthers need to improve on.

Taking Taylor fills a couple of needs here. There is no doubt that Carolina needs help on the offensive line. Ryan Kalil retired, Amini Silatolu leaves a lot to be desired, and we don’t know how Daryl Williams is going to hold up. Then again, we may not have to worry about that at all. Williams ended his rookie contract in 2018 and will be looking for a new deal this offseason. Should the Panthers decide not to go that route, Taylor would be a solid pick that they would not have to pay enormous amounts of money to, until his rookie deal is over.

He is certainly intriguing for the Carolina Panthers and he would definitely fill a need. He has experience in one of the toughest conferences in college football so that helps his case as well. He could be a very viable pick for the Panthers at No.  16 overall.
