Daryl Williams

This was a move that I wasn’t even sure the Carolina Panthers were going to be able to get done. On March 14, they signed right tackle Daryl Williams to a one-year contract. Signed for $7 million, the one- year deal definitely goes under the category of a “prove it” type of contract.

This was perhaps one of the biggest moves of the off-season because it allowed Carolina to get their All-Pro tackle back at a relatively reasonable rate. Now, he did have some injury issues last year so it is not guaranteed that he will be an All-Pro again. This will certainly be his chance to shine and he has to make the most of it. For an offensive line that was absolutely decimated by injuries last year, having Williams back in the fold is certainly a tremendous development.

If he can return to his 2017 form, the Carolina Panthers should have a sturdier line than last year. That is not setting the bar too high, but it is certainly encouraging for the offense, especially quarterback Cam Newton and running back Christian McCaffrey. They perhaps need the offensive line to function well more than any other players on the unit.
