Joey Slye is the real deal

Joey Slye is going to give Graham Gano a run for his money. He had a great day on Friday, going two-of-two on field goals for a total of six points. This of course was following up his impressive performance against the Chicago Bears when he went three-of-three on field goals and two-of-two on extra points for a total of 11 points.

He has been one of the pleasant surprises over the course of this training camp. Granted, this is only a two-game sample size, but he has been consistent and has shown he has range from at least 50 yards out. That will get you far in this league, as offense has become the name of the game in the National Football League.

It will be interesting to see what he does against New England next Thursday. The Patriots have a tough defense, and that may give the offense some fits. This may lead to long field goals in difficult situations. Typically, the third preseason game has the feel of a regular season game as the starters will be out on the field for an extended period of time. The stakes will be high for him to make himself stand out.  Slye needs to remember what he did on Friday, and it use that as fuel for next Thursday. He is on a hot streak right now, and it seems like he can make field goals from almost anywhere.
