Quarterback

For the first time since Carolina selected Cam Newton with the No. 1 overall pick in 2011, the Panthers drafted a quarterback. This past April, Charlotte native and collegiate stand out Will Grier joined the black and blue. Expected to be a potential future replacement, who can be groomed as Newton finishes out his career – the early results need improvement.

Backup Kyle Allen was sharp during the preseason debut, but last week he too failed to look the part of a signal caller who can carry this football team. While no one is going to replace Newton, his recent injury history makes whoever lands the backup position all the more important.

Taylor Heinicke used a solid game two performance (8-for-12, 78 yards, 1 TD) to remain in contention but expectations are Allen, Grier or both make the final roster.
