Carolina Panthers Kyle Allen tops undefeated quarterback group
Carolina Panthers Kyle Allen leads all undefeated quarterbacks in passer rating.
Cam Newton remains the franchise quarterback of the Carolina Panthers but backup Kyle Allen is proving he too can win football games in the league. Earning the position over rookie Will Grier during preseason play, Allen entered 2019 with just one career start.
Playing in place of an injured Newton and Taylor Heinicke, Allen started Week 17 at New Orleans last year. The final game of a season that started with so much promise but quickly became one to forget. On the heels of a seven game losing streak, Allen temporarily righted the ship and allowed Carolina to enter the offseason on a positive note with a victory.
While winning against a Saints team who rested many of their regulars may not have proved too much, it did help Allen move from third-string to backup and another Newton injury has thrust him into the spotlight.
Stepping in Week 3, Allen has the Panthers on a three-game winning streak making history as the first Super Bowl era quarterback to start his career with four consecutive wins and no interceptions. In London this week, Allen and the Panthers look to avenge an earlier loss to divisional rival Tampa Bay.

During a season that has put an emphasis on backup quarterbacks across the league with injuries to Newton, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Nick Foles and more – two have particularly risen to the occasion.
Of the four undefeated starting quarterbacks remaining, those two began this season on the bench. Both Allen and the Saints Teddy Bridgewater have helped keep their teams relevant over the past few weeks, joining Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo without a loss.
However, it is Allen who leads this prestigious group in quarterback passer rating (107.4) by nearly eight points. Bridgewater (99.5) is second with Brady and Garoppolo tied just below (99.4). Brady and the Patriots added another win Thursday night and each of the other quarterbacks will be in action on Sunday.
See if Allen continues his streak when the Panthers and Buccaneers kickoff in London at 9:30am ET.
