Regular season statistics are great but legends are born in the playoffs and while Newton is currently 3-4 in postseason play, it was his last playoff performance that ranks as the best of his entire career. On the heels of a historic 2015 season, Newton led Carolina into their first ever home conference championship game.
The visiting Arizona Cardinals were 13-3 behind the league’s top ranked offense but it was Newton and the Panthers defense who stole the show. Racing out to a 24-7 halftime lead, Carolina cruised to a 49-15 win while setting a record for most points from an NFC title recipient.
Newton paved the way with 335 yards and two passing touchdowns, in addition to two rushing scores. Executing Superman celebrations and making the dab a national phenomenon, Bank of America Stadium was rocking throughout the entire contest.
Everything the Panthers had hoped to get from making Newton the first overall selection just four seasons prior was coming to fruition. The win gave Carolina their second ever berth in the Super Bowl and until Newton hoists the Lombardi Trophy, this game will remain his greatest with the Panthers.
