The Carolina Panthers netted a starting quarterback in free agency, but will they look for a long-term solution in this year’s NFL Draft.

While the Carolina Panthers will be hoping Teddy Bridgewater is their quarterback for the foreseeable future. The decision-makers might look for a contingency plan in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million deal to prize him away from the New Orleans Saints. This included a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed.

The Panthers have shown tremendous faith in Bridgewater returning to his old form with the Minnesota Vikings before a devastating leg injury almost cost him his career. But head coach Matt Rhule recently stated the franchise is not ruling out the chance of taking one of the elite prospects with the No.7 selection later this month.

Any such decision would be a hugely controversial move given the lack of defensive options available in Carolina. But stranger things have happened, and the Panthers do have an out regarding Bridgewater’s contract in 2022.

This is a highly divisive quarterback class with plenty of players who could perform at a high level if given the opportunity. There is also the prospect of Carolina taking a late-round flyer on the position with Will Grier and P.J. Walker as their current back-ups.

It would allow any incoming recruit to work under Bridgewater, learn the ropes and hopefully become his long-term successor if things don’t pan out.

Here are six prospects that will be worth considering.
