What would Adams bring to the Panthers?

Jamal Adams is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s premier safeties thanks to his ultra-consistent level of performance since entering the league. There is little doubt he has outplayed his current deal and the player is going to significantly strengthen any team that is fortunate enough to acquire his services.

After a fine rookie season, Adams broke out in 2018 on his way to 115 combined tackles (86 solo), 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, 12 pass deflections, and an interception. He continued this trend on a poor New York Jets team in 2019 to further enhance his status as an elite player.

Adams recorded 75 combined tackles (61 solo), 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, seven pass deflections, and an interception. He would bring a tremendous amount to the Carolina Panthers’ defense and it makes for an intriguing prospect providing the price is right.

While the No. 7 overall pick should not be considered, perhaps the Jets might be willing to part ways with Adams for Carolina’s second-rounder (38th overall) and a fifth-round pick or risk losing him for nothing in free agency in 2021.

There is the chance of franchise tagging the player next offseason. But given the disruption he is causing already, it might be best for the Jets to cut their losses and get some more draft capital in the coming days.

The Panthers are in rebuilding mode whether they like it or not. So Adams may not like this particular scenario if it presented itself and this could bring more trouble than its worth down the line.
