Carolina Panthers Draft: 3 top positions of need in 2020
By Dean Jones
1. Cornerback
The NFC South possesses some real firepower in the passing game and the Carolina Panthers are incredibly short on cornerbacks.
They lost their No. 1 corner James Bradberry to free agency and the New York Giants. Although expected, this was a real blow and one that will need to be addressed as a matter of urgency in the NFL Draft.
There is hope within the organization that Donte Jackson can make some strides with additional experience on the field. But it is evident that more is needed if the franchise is going to make any sort of impression next term.
If someone like Jeff Okudah falls into their lap at No. 7, this will be an easy decision for the Panthers to make. The Ohio State prospect has got All-Pro written all over him and is a rare talent at the position.
The Panthers are also reportedly keen on drafting CJ Henderson out of Florida. Although he might be a reach at the No. 7 spot, it might be a risk worth taking as there is a considerable drop-off after the first two cornerback talents on the big board.
Trade down options include Jeff Gladney and Kristian Fulton. Alabama product Trevon Diggs also has a freaky skill set and should also be on the shortlist despite his relative inexperience at the position.
It would be a huge surprise if the Panthers did not use one of their first two picks on a cornerback and any other decision will have a hugely detrimental impact on their overall ambitions.
