There was some good Carolina Panthers news to come from their free-agency offensive moves, but where do they rank compared to the rest of the NFL?

It was an offseason of unprecedented activity and plenty of good Carolina Panthers news thrown in. The team began their rebuild with some strong additions and got rid of some veteran stars who commanded salaries beyond their production.

Although there are going to be plenty of struggles ahead in 2020. This should give the Panthers a solid foundation from which to build a contender in the coming years.

Dan Ambrosino from Fansided’s NFL Spin Zone also likes what he sees from the Carolina offense going forward. He ranked the potential as 79 out of a possible 100 that left them 20th in the NFL.

Summarising his thoughts on the offense, Ambrosino had this to say on the Panthers.

"Teddy Bridgewater will have one of the better skill position groups at his disposal, but his abysmal offensive line could cause trouble for a young passer who played behind one of the best offensive lines in the league last season. Luckily, he’ll have Christian McCaffery and D.J. Moore as outlets that excel in creating yards and avoiding contact."

While the “abysmal” tag surrounding the offensive line seems a bit harsh. It is widely considered a weak element on their roster. There is much work to be done in training camp to ensure they become a cohesive unit in time for their season opener.

It is almost a completely new lineup and that will have to gel quickly for the franchise to stand any chance of remaining competitive. Much will depend on the fortunes of Russell Okung, who was acquired in a trade that sent Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Okung is heading into the final year of his deal and will need to perform well to earn a bigger commitment from the organization. Former Chargers teammate Michael Schofield was recently signed to a one-year deal and he should sure up the interior considerably.

John Miller is someone the Panthers’ coaching staff really like and worked hard to bring to the franchise. Big things are also expected of Taylor Moton at the right tackle spot.

It came as no surprise that the Carolina running back scored 24/25 with the presence of All-Pro Christian McCaffrey. The electrifying player is going to be the focal point of the offense once again after signing a four-year extension worth $64 million this offseason.

The wide receiver group of Moore, Robby Anderson, Curtis Samuel, and Pharoh Cooper scored 21 out of 25. But Ambrosini was less impressed with the tight end options of Ian Thomas and Chris Manhertz (17/25).

There is definite potential regarding the Carolina offense, providing it all comes together straight away. Their time to gel has been diminished significantly due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is going to make it more difficult for fresh faces to familiarise themselves with their new teammates.

They might have to score a lot of points to be successful in 2020 due to a young defense who will be prone to errors. It’s going to be a bumpy ride and one that could go either way in terms of the Panthers’ fortunes.
