Panthers 2020 Depth Chart: The Carolina quarterback room
By Dean Jones
The Carolina Panthers 2020 depth chart is going to have a completely different look to it after a series of changes this offseason, but how has that impacted the quarterback room.
Things have changed dramatically for the Carolina Panthers in a short space of time. A flurry of activity in free agency and a historic draft has left the franchise in the first stages of a rebuild.
The Panthers 2020 depth chart will reflect this by the time competitive action gets back underway. They have made a concerted effort to go young and although this is going to come with its fair share of struggles. It should stand them in good stead as the franchise looks to become contenders in the future.
One area of the field that is looking completely different is at quarterback. The organization parted ways with former first-round pick Cam Newton after a glittering spell with the Panthers that saw the dual-threat phenom become the 2015 NFL MVP and lead Carolina to a Super Bowl appearance.
While releasing Newton did not come with the best timing from the player’s perspective. Given the moves made this offseason it was almost inevitable. How the new recruits adjust to head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s way of thinking in the coming weeks is going to go a long way to determining the short and long-term aspirations of the franchise.
This process is not going to be aided by the current social distancing measures relating to the coronavirus pandemic. Staff and quarterbacks alike are going to have to make every second count whenever training camp eventually gets underway.
