Doug Farrar’s stat surrounding Derrick Brown is just a small part of what he is going to bring. The Carolina Panthers draft focused on building from the inside out and they hope their latest first-round pick can become the cornerstone of their defense for the next decade.

Moving back to a 4-3 base is going to do wonders for Brown’s early transition. Much has been made of the potential surrounding the player and Kawann Short on the interior, which could wreak havoc on any given down.

There are some questions regarding Brown’s pass-rushing against some of the more formidable offensive guards in the NFL. But the Panthers shouldn’t be too concerned about this as there should be plenty more to come from a player with a Pro Bowl ceiling.

The Panthers draft reflected how poor their defense was in 2019. They were dismal against the run and this played a leading role in Brown ending up with the franchise.

He has some lofty expectations to live up to from the first day he steps foot on the field in a competitive environment. Brown appears to have plenty of resolve about him and although he may appear to be calm off the field. This transforms into ruthless aggression once the player moves in between the lines.

This is going to be a real problem for the rest of the league. Brown is high class with an exceptional character who is going to thrive with the responsibility that comes with being a first-round pick.
