Biggest challenges for Carolina Panthers: Offensive line play

The Carolina Panthers made big challenges to their offensive line in the hope of a turnaround in fortunes this offseason. This was highlighted by the departure of perennial Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner, who was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for veteran left tackle Russell Okung.

While it remains to be seen whether Okung will be with the team beyond this season., He faces a daunting prospect in 2020 against some of the most dominant pass-rushers in the game.

There is also the question of health regarding the veteran. And his level of consistency is set to go a long way to determining whether quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is going to be a success under center.

John Miller and Michael Schofield were brought in at guard to potentially fill the vast void left by Turner. The franchise also has the option of using Dennis Daley at the position following a rookie season full of struggles on the edge.

Center Matt Paradis must also bounce back if he wants his stay in Carolina to last the duration of his deal. This has the potential to make-or-break the Panthers’ season and the unit must come together in double-quick time during training camp and preseason fixtures.

It’s all well and good having the sort of offensive weapons that Carolina possesses. But if they are not given protection consistently it could be a recipe for disaster.
