Former Saints on the Carolina Panthers: Coaching staff (Joe Brady)

It’s easy to forget that the new man-in-charge of the offensive success with the Carolina Panthers has also spent time with the New Orleans Saints. Joe Brady was an offensive assistant under Sean Payton before making the move to LSU, where he transformed the fortunes of their passing game on the way to a National Championship.

Brady comes into the Panthers with a reputation as being a forward-thinking offensive mind. He likes to move the ball downfield quickly and this could come with substantial progression for Carolina’s current group.

A lot will depend on how Teddy Bridgewater’s protection holds up as the campaign progresses. But there is some real hope the team can make strides overall from an offensive perspective.

The new coordinator will no doubt have learned a lot from the Saints offense and how they went about their business. This obviously stood him in good stead with the Tigers. And he is largely responsible for transforming quarterback Joe Burrow from an afterthought to the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This will be another big step up in class for Brady, who will not get things all his own way in the brutal world of the NFL. The potential is definitely there. And if he can bring balance to the Panthers’ offense it is going to do their chances of surprising people no harm at all.
