4. Carolina Panthers 2021 extension: John Miller (OG)

There have been big changes to the offensive line with the Carolina Panthers in recent months. The team took the bold move to trade away perennial Pro Bowler Trai Turner, which has also enhanced the uncertainty.

This was an area of concern for the Panthers in 2019. And the unit must come together quickly in order to give quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and running back Christian McCaffrey the best possible chance to succeed.

The franchise did bring in John Miller on a one-year deal that could be worth almost $4 million if he reaches his expectations. Carolina’s coaching staff targeted the player as one that could aid them significantly. And he gave up just two sacks on a Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive line that went through incredible struggles last season.

Miller will be tasked with shoring up the pass protection from the interior. He will also contribute to the Panthers’ strong running attack. And this is an element of his game that has real potential in this environment.

Much will depend on how Miller performs. But there is nothing to suggest he cannot rise to the challenge in pursuit of a long-term deal next spring.

Good offensive line play has been at a premium for the Panthers in recent seasons. They would be wise to make Miller an offer to stay if he can solidify one of the guard spots in 2020.
