Carolina Panthers Draft: Top 10 picks of the Marty Hurney era
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Draft: Charles Johnson (DE)
One of the real steals in the Marty Hurney era was Charles Johnson. The defensive end was a third-round pick in 2007 and went on to become one of the organization’s most prolific pass-rushers.
Johnson played the game with a ruthless that is rarely found in today’s NFL. He spent his entire 11-year career with the Panthers and recorded 67.5 sacks, 228 solo tackles, 117 quarterback hits, and 25 forced fumbles.
Carolina Panthers Draft: Thomas Davis (LB)
Thomas Davis quickly established himself as the heart and soul of the Carolina Panthers after he became their first-round pick in 2005. He led the team through some of its greatest ever seasons. And his lasting legacy within the organization is something that will live through the ages.
Davis was a ferocious tackler who has a superb instinct on the field. He departed in 2019 for the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. And he has since reunited with former head coach Ron Rovers with the Washington Redskins.
Carolina Panthers Draft: Jordan Gross (OT)
Jordan Gross is the best offensive tackle the Carolina Panthers have ever had. Much was expected of the player when he came into the league as a first-round pick in 2003. But its safe to say he more than lived up to expectations.
Gross was a blindside protector with a skill set that hasn’t been seen before or since in Carolina. His footwork was exemplary and his emergence as a true locker room leader was another way he managed to inspire everyone associated with the franchise.
