Carolina Panthers trade target: Tracy Walker (S)

Things look promising at safety for the Carolina Panthers following their decisions to draft Jeremy Chinn and Kenny Robinson. But they could still use another productive player within the unit to aid the two rookies with their progression.

This becomes more essential if the Panthers opt to use Chinn as a slot cornerback, which is a real possibility. Tre Boston is a solid presence on the backend. But it remains to be seen just how well Juston Burris does in a new environment.

Tracy Walker might have suffered a baptism of fire for the Detroit Lions during his time in the NFL. But his 2019 campaign saw the player take a significant leap forward. The former third-round pick achieved 84 solo tackles on his way to an impressive 73.5 grade from Pro Football Focus. And he has the frame to get even better entering his prime.

Walker is heading into the penultimate year of his rookie deal and will make $750,000 and $920,000 base salary over the next two years. The asking price will probably be relatively steep given the player’s recent development. So Carolina will probably adopt a wait and see approach with their current options before deciding if more is needed in 2021.

If they decide to strengthen this area of the field next spring, then Walker should be high on their shortlist. Especially is the safety has another promising year in 2020.
