Carolina Panthers 2007 Draft: Dashon Goldson over Ryne Robinson (No. 118)

Ryne Robinson was selected to be a return man for the Carolina Panthers at No. 188. Sadly for the player and the organization, he failed to live up to his billing and was swiftly moved on.

The player was drafted primarily due to his work in kick-offs and punt returns for Miami University. He was an electrifying prospect that managed to secure seven touchdowns over a four-year period.

He only played one season for the Panthers and he was good if not spectacular. Robinson never took a carry to the endzone. And his career was over after he was released after an inconsistent rookie year.

It was a bust pick and they could have taken a player who brings a lot of energy to the defense in Dashon Goldson. He isn’t considered one of the best safeties of all time. But the heavy hitter was a superb player in his prime.

Goldson was a prominent part of the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl run in 2013. He finished his career with two Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro in 2013.

In his six years with the Niners, he hauled in 14 interceptions and forced six fumbles. If the Panthers would have taken Eric Weddle in the first round and Goldson in the fourth, they could have had an amazing backend of their secondary for many years.
