Carolina Panthers Player No. 1: Pharoh Cooper (WR/KR)

The Carolina Panthers look absolutely loaded at the wide receiver spot. They have a top-three in D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, and Curtis Samuel that could put up some serious numbers with a more consistent quarterback throwing them the ball. And a number of other rotational players will be aiming to earn their own share of targets during training camp and the preseason.

Pharoh Cooper was one of their free-agent signings this spring. And he has an outstanding skill set to call upon that could be used by offensive coordinator Joe Brady in a variety of different ways.

Cooper is an extremely elusive player with the ball in his hands. He has experience on the outside, in the slot, or as a running back. And he represents a coaches’ dream in that sense.

Another way that Cooper is going to be used prominently is as a punt and kick returner. The player has accumulated 2,093 yards from kick returns over a four-year career. And his punt return figure of 623 yards is another statistic that will stand him in good stead in a new environment.

While other wide receivers will generate the headlines. It would not be a shock to see Cooper become a reliable target for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Brady can get creative with how he uses the player. But he must first beat out the other hopefuls who will be seeking the No. 4 receiver position as a realistic objective.
