Players the Carolina Panthers can’t risk sneaking on the practice squad: Jordan Mack (LB)

The Carolina Panthers could have found a real diamond in the rough with Jordan Mack. The former Virginia linebacker went undrafted despite his supreme athletic traits. And he has a better chance than most of making the 53-man roster at a position lacking depth.

Mack comes into the NFL with four good years of college production under his belt. He ended on a high in 20019 by recording 7.5 sacks, 69 combined tackles, and two forced fumbles. The player made a tremendous adjustment after moving from safety down to the second level. And he is only going to get better with more experience.

The Panthers lost Luke Kuechly to a shock retirement this offseason. Their immediate hopes will be placed squarely on the shoulders on Tahir Whitehead to plug the gap in the short-term. But there is a chance for someone like Mack to earn a place on the rotation in pass-rushing situations.

His previous experience in the secondary also makes him a useful option in covering players across the middle. But time will be at a premium for Mack in terms of proving his worth before week one.

If the Panthers choose to put him on the practice squad while he works on things such as tackling and size. It might result in Mack receiving an offer from elsewhere. His versatility and ability to impact the game in numerous ways should make him a hot commodity. And Carolina would be prudent not to let him walk.
