What does Matt Rhule expect from new offensive coordinator Joe Brady to deliver for the Carolina Panthers in 2020?

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what Matt Rhule sees in new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. The Carolina Panthers news regarding the former LSU man’s arrival to the organization looks to be a shrewd move. And it is something that could bring great things in the future.

The Carolina Panthers news on their changes across the board has been met with some derision by the team’s fanbase in recent months. But there appears to be real hope that their new coordinator can be a tremendous asset to have on their staff from the outset.

Brady masterminded the Tigers’ historic passing attack in 2019. This saw them clinch a National Championship in convincing fashion and played a leading role in the progressive young mind getting a chance to make a name for himself in the NFL.

He was largely responsible for Joe Burrow going from a mid-round prospect to the No. 1 overall pick. The new Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller threw for 60 touchdowns and accumulated more than 5,000 passing yards under Brady, which was enough for the gunslinger to secure the Heisman Trophy by a landslide.

Rhule is expecting big things from Brady and the Panthers’ offense in 2020. And the head coach has been impressed by what he has seen from his recruit so far as Carolina gets set for a return to the field during training camp.

"“For being such a young guy, he is a football grinder. A lot of guys, they have a system and they’re so smart — Joe’s a grinder. He’s constantly working on football, and I think the players recognize that. The reason why I wanted to hire Joe was (that) at LSU, he ran a version of the Saints’ system. As a college coach, I studied NFL tape all the time. Obviously, with them being in the NFC South, I have so much respect for (head coach) Sean Payton, their system, their ability to consistently execute and play at the highest of levels. And so you see Joe with his own take put on something that’s really strong fundamentally and sound fundamentally.”"

Brady’s experience with the Saints as an assistant should ensure a smooth transition to the pros. He has a previous working relationship with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. So he will already know how to get the best out of a player that was hand-picked to replace iconic figure Cam Newton under center.

Of all the Panthers news during an unprecedented offseason of activity, the acquisition of Brady to the coaching staff could be the most important. If he gains anything like the success achieved at LSU during his first season with the organization, then the sky truly is the limit for this offense.

Big questions do remain about the defense and the team’s offensive line. But they are loaded with playmakers that can make a significant contribution.

The onus will fall on Brady to ensure that he gets the most out of each talent at his disposal. And this is something he did extremely well with the tools on the Tigers’ last season.

This looks to be another step on the path to a possible head coaching role for Brady in the not-too-distant future. His arrival in Carolina is a real coup for the franchise. And it is going to be a game-changer for the organization if everything clicks into place right away.
