3 ways Luke Kuechly’s retirement will impact the Panthers

Here are three ways that the Carolina Panthers will be impacted most by linebacker Luke Kuechly’s shock retirement this offseason.
The Carolina Panthers were dealt a considerable blow this offseason when Luke Kuechly announced his retirement. The prolific linebacker called it a day after eight memorable campaigns with the organization. And this has left a huge void both on and off the field.
It couldn’t have been an easy decision for the former Boston College standout. However, the Panthers got their money’s worth in no uncertain terms from a player that will go down history as one of the NFL’s best ever at the position.
Kuechly will be staying around the organization in his new role as a pro scout. This is a shrewd move from the Panthers given his knowledge of the game. And this should help them an endless amount during a period of transition.
Much was expected from Kuechly when Carolina took him No. 9 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. Not only did the player exceed expectations almost from the moment he stepped onto the field. But he became the heart and soul of the Panthers’ defense in the process.
This came with plenty of individual accolades along the way. Kuechly won Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. He was selected to the first-team All-Pro squad five times, and his standout displays also earned seven Pro Bowl trips.
What the Panthers’ coaching staff wouldn’t give to have Kuechly guiding their young defense in 2020. His decision to hang up his cleats was probably the right one for his long-term health. But this does not detract from what a body blow his retirement is for the organization.
Here are three ways Kuechly’s retirement will impact Carolina next season and beyond.
