There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the college football season due to the current climate. Pac-12 players delivered a landmark ultimatum to make things safer before they return to the field. And UConn recently became the first program to declare they wouldn’t be taking part in any competitive fixtures.
Things will look drastically different in 2020 at the college level. And that is if any football gets played at all. What comes next could have severe implications on the Carolina Panthers and their draft plans next spring. So they will be monitoring this situation closely.
Perhaps the most notable player to opt-out of the season so far is Micah Parsons. The Penn State linebacker looks to have played his final down for the Nittany Lions after choosing to sit out the campaign. This leaves the highly-touted prospect with considerable time to get himself ready for the evaluation process and a shot at the big time.
Parsons is set to be one of the first names called during the 2021 NFL Draft. And this represents an area of considerable need for the Carolina Panthers after perennial All-Pro Luke Kuechly announced his shock retirement after eight sensational seasons.
Much will depend on where the Panthers end up drafting. And although there will be a thirst from the team’s fanbase for the organization to select a potential franchise quarterback such as Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.
