Panthers training camp: 4 surprise adds to the 53-man roster
By Dean Jones
Here are four players that could become surprising adds to the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster with an impressive display during training camp.
The Carolina Panthers have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks. Training camp is now in full swing following an unprecedented offseason. And how those on the roster perform will go a long way to determining their fortunes.
This is the only chance they are going to get to impress. So it is vital that each member of the roster makes the most out of every team drill. The Carolina Panthers will not have any preseason games to hone their skills before taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1. And this has raised the stakes at camp even higher.
New head coach Matt Rhule has his work cut out trying to get this unit together in a short space of time. He has already outlined his desire to not wait three years at the professional level to achieve success. But the magnitude of the task awaiting the former Baylor man could not be any steeper.
Expectations are relatively low for the Panthers. This is due to the vast changes made across the board. And they also find themselves in a tough division that has two teams that could realistically win the NFC in 2020.
This might leave a window of opportunity for those on the fringes looking for a surprising place on the 53-man roster. While other teams with a more realistic shot of reaching the postseason may be inclined to go with veteran experience over youth. It is a good time for Carolina to blend in some unproven players that might be able to contribute down the line.
Here are four Panthers that could become eye-catching adds to the roster if they impress during training camp.
