Which members of the Carolina Panthers could be playing their way to long-term deals through Week 5 of the 2020 season?

It has been a memorable season for the Carolina Panthers so far. They did get off to a rocky start with two straight losses. But things have picked up considerably since then as the team now finds itself at 3-2 following another impressive win at the Atlanta Falcons.

Considering that the Carolina Panthers were expected to be also-rans at this stage of their rebuild, this is a notable achievement and one that puts them well ahead of schedule. Matt Rhule has a close-knit group who are all fighting for each other on the field. And their chemistry is developing with each passing game after not having any preseason fixtures to boost this vital element of success.

One of the things that have probably been overlooked is how many important players are nearing the end of their deals, either next year or in 2022. Financial resources are likely to be diminished following a season like no other. But it is hard to deny that some players are making their cases known regarding possible extensions thanks to their sterling displays in a competitive environment.

There is a long way to go, and the Panthers could very easily be 3-4 by the time Week 8 rolls around. But even that is better than what many doom and gloom merchants predicted at the start of the campaign.

Let’s take a look at five Panthers players who might just be playing their way into new deals in Carolina through five weeks.
