4 Panthers players who disappointed vs. the Bucs in Week 10
By Dean Jones
Corn Elder – Carolina Panthers CB
Corn Elder did a nice job in run support against the Buccaneers. But it didn’t take long to realize he was in a little over his head in coverage.
That’s completely understandable for a rotational cornerback who is probably playing more than even he thought possible. However, it does not detract from what a disappointing performance he put in against arguably the NFL’s best receiving trio.
As the old saying goes, there are levels to this.
Elder wasn’t the only one, which is probably highlighted in this list of disappointing Carolina Panthers players in Week 10. The Bucs had their way on offense to the tune of 544 total yards and the defense failed to force a single punt once again.
The cornerback does have his limitations, but overall Elder’s production from the slot has been above average this season. He worked hard to earn a spot on the rotation during training camp and it’s not like the Panthers have anything in the way of viable alternatives that can go above him on the depth chart.
Couple this with the fact Donte Jackson is probably better off out of the firing line at this juncture and Carolina might just be relying on Elder more heavily down the stretch. He will need to perform a lot better than this moving forward, but the player is unlikely to come up against such quality adversaries consistently that might just work in his favor.
