Which Carolina Panthers role players need to show out vs. the Saints?

The Carolina Panthers are one game from the end of their 2020 season, which has been an eventful one, to say the least. There are signs that head coach Matt Rhule is building something special with this group even if their final record might not indicate this. But there is a lot of work upcoming for the decision-makers during the offseason as they look to take another big leap forward in 2021.

Their win at the Washington Football Team last time out means confidence is high going into their home game against the New Orleans Saints. Sean Payton’s men are still in contention for the No. 1 seed and a potential bye, but they’ll be without the services of stud running back Alvin Kamara after he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday.

The Panthers have some injury problems of their own. Plenty of senior figures are either doubtful or already ruled out of the season finale, meaning that some under-the-radar roster members need to step up and make their presence felt.

Let’s take a look at four Panthers role players who need to perform well against the Saints at Bank of America Stadium.

Matt Kaskey – Carolina Panthers OT

The Panthers are down to the bare bones on their offensive line. Matt Kaskey was called up from the practice squad this week to compensate for this. And he could have a big part to play against a formidable New Orleans defensive front.

Michael Schofield was thrust into the left tackle role in Washington last time out and it would be a big surprise if he was given the same sort of responsibility in Week 17. Kaskey hasn’t seen much in the way of playing time this season, but Carolina has nothing to lose at this point and should see what they have with the player.
