Giovanni Ricci – Carolina Panthers TE

The Carolina Panthers have some problems at the tight end position that needs to be rectified this offseason. Their decision to let Greg Olsen go cam back to haunt them thanks to a distinct lack of production from Ian Thomas, who didn’t prove worthy of being a long-term successor to the prolific former Pro Bowler.

Carolina extended Colin Thompson after he showed signs of life in limited action. However, it would be a big surprise if further additions weren’t added either in free agency or with an exciting college recruit such as Florida’s Kyle Pitts.

Another eye-catching player who shouldn’t be ignored is Giovanni Ricci. He was part of the Panthers’ practice squad for almost the entire season and has obviously done enough to get one more shot at proving worthy of being a more prominent member of the set-up in 2021.

Ricci made the smoothest of transitions to tight end from a wide receiver during his time at Western Michigan. This resulted in 86 receptions, 1,034 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns over his final two years before entering the pro ranks.

His smooth pass-catching prowess made a big impression during camp in 2020 and there might just be an opening for Ricci if he shows more once team activities resume later this year.
