Deshaun Watson fanned the flames regarding a possible trade with a single tweet, but could he be the statement new Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer is looking for?

The relationship between Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans might be past the point on no return. But whether this results in the exceptional quarterback somehow ending up with the Carolina Panthers this offseason is highly debatable.

Watson is making things extremely difficult for the Texans to keep him around. The former first-round pick confirmed all-but confirmed a tweet from Adam Schefter stating that his displeasure has gone “from a two to a 10” regarding the latest developments and his lack of involvement regarding personnel decisions.

This has also come with some of his own teammates – past and present – stating Watson would probably be better off out of the organization given the direction they’re currently heading in.

His own teammates.

Unprecedented.

The Panthers seem to have things a little bit better organized, confirming the appointment of Scott Fitterer as general manager on a five-year deal on Thursday. It was a whirlwind few days for the former VP of player personnel with the Seattle Seahawks and he comes into Carolina with a big reputation that could assist with their rebuild enormously.

Fitterer and most general managers across the NFL will be watching Watson’s situation leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft. Houston doesn’t have their first or second-round picks this year, which would have been the No. 3 overall selection thanks to a bumper deal centered around edge protector Laremy Tunsil. So if their franchise player digs in his heels further, it might leave them with no other alternative other than to field trade calls.
