What options do the Carolina Panthers have?

If the Carolina Panthers decide that the price for Carson Wentz is too much, which they should, there are plenty of other avenues the organization could go down regarding a new quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater’s time as a starter is hanging by a thread and all it’s going to take is one move in the coming weeks either via trade, in free agency, or the 2021 NFL Draft to formally condemn him to a possible move away after just one year.

The obvious one and easily the most desirable is trading for Deshaun Watson. It is going to come with an astronomical price, of that there is little doubt. But he is an elite signal-caller just entering his prime and these sorts of players simply don’t become available too often.

There could be a substantial amount of movement with quarterbacks across the league this offseason. Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford have already swapped teams in a bombshell trade, which could set off a domino effect that Carolina won’t want to be on the outside looking in on.

The likes of Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr might all be on the trade market if reports are to be believed, with players such as Jameis Winston, Mitchell Trubsiky, and Dak Prescott possibly available in free agency.

Carolina could also take an exciting young prospect in the draft, although the top-three players coming out of college this year might be off the board by the time they’re on the clock at No. 8.

With so many possibilities, overpaying for Wentz isn’t the smartest of moves by any stretch of the imagination.

The Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears appear to be the frontrunners. So all the Panthers’ fanbase can do until official confirmation is some praying to the football gods that Wentz doesn’t shockingly end up in Carolina.
