4 Deshaun Watson trade offers that wouldn’t go down well
By Dean Jones
The biggest no-no of all?
Carolina Panthers Twitter would sure be an interesting place if this was the agreed price for Deshaun Watson. Giving up five draft picks is bad enough, but if the organization gives in to Houston’s reported demands then it could see the likes of Jeremy Chinn and Donte Jackson also included.
Chinn wasted no time in making his presence felt, with the fans immediately taking to the former Southern Illinois standout thanks to exceptional production on the field and an exciting style of play. Even contemplating including the do-it-all defender in any trade package is going to be met with apoplectic rage not seen within the fanbase since…..
Well, only last year when Carolina released Cam Newton.
But you get the point.
However, Chinn alone won’t be enough. So parting ways with another player who seems to be heading on the right track in Jackson is another sacrifice that would make the Texans sit up and take notice.
The cornerback looked like a top player down the stretch after recovering from a toe problem. But he is heading into the final year of his deal and another strong campaign is going to come with some significant financial rewards that Carolina might not be able to match.
Watson is a phenomenal talent and there are probably only two or three teams in the league who wouldn’t consider him an upgrade on their current quarterback. A deal such as this would leave the Panthers incredibly short of prominent playmakers on defense and without much in the way of draft capital or financial resources to bring in replacements.
