Which players who turned out for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 produced performances that were largely forgettable?

The Carolina Panthers got plenty of surprising production from some members of its roster in 2020. But it’s hard to look at others and not come to the conclusion that their respective contributions left a lot to be desired, even though it will make things a little easier for the decision-makers to move on swiftly from them if they haven’t already done so.

This was all part of the learning curve. Little was expected of the Panthers heading into the 2020 season given how many established veterans departed the organization at great expense to the dead-cap sum. They were largely competitive without quite getting themselves over the line against some top teams. So there is plenty of encouraging signs to build upon providing their recruitment is right this offseason.

There are 25 current players out of contract, with plenty set to be moved on for the greater good. Those who are going to be moved on probably know it’s coming, but there are some who feel like they deserve another chance and are in a “wait and see” mode.

On this topic, we took a look at five players who we’ll probably forget ever turned out for the Panthers in 2020.

Michael Schofield – Carolina Panthers OL

There was a big chance awaiting Michael Schofield with the Panthers. The offensive lineman was brought in on a short-term deal and even won a starting job at guard thanks to a training camp injury suffered by Dennis Daley. But what came next was a series of lackluster displays, a benching, and a minimal role over the second half of the campaign.

Schofield can have no complaints when he is inevitably cut loose before free agency begins. His final chance to shine when the player slotted into the left tackle position was a dramatic failure and probably the final nail in his coffin.
